Preservationists’ halted plans by developers who sought to demolish the trolley barn and two depot towers in 1987. The restaurant opened its doors in the late 1980s in a circa-1890 trolley barn that once operated as a terminal for the New York and Queens County Railway. Windows and doors at the Pizza Hut restaurant have been boarded-up and signs have been posted at the site directing customers to restaurants in Maspeth and Rego Park. The restaurant was targeted at least two times since December 2017 by gun-toting thieves who made off with a total of $450 in the daylight holdups. A Pizza Hut restaurant located in the Tower Square Shopping Center at 51-40 Northern Boulevard in Woodside closed its doors last month after almost three decades at the location.
